WON'T BE TAMED: Alessia Lupo Cecchet and Marijke de Pous

I will be showing new work along with Marijke de Pous in Aosta (Italy) from June 5 to July 5. The show is the result of a long-distance collaboration with Marijke, who I have had the pleasure to get to know thanks to a shared prize by the Alina Art Foundation. We will be showing individual works, but we have been working in close collaboration since learning about the two-person show. Marijke is a truly inspiring artist and woman who makes sculptural and performative pieces that I find very compelling. More information about the exhibition and press release, below.

A dual exhibition by Alessia Lupo Cecchet and Marijke de Pous

There’s a wild force at the heart of true art — something that resists explanation, containment, and control. This force animates WON’T BE TAMED, a two-person show featuring Alessia Lupo Cecchet and Marijke de Pous, joint winners of the second prize at ArteAlta 2024 with the works “Balaena” and “Choreographies of Care and Resistance.” ArteAlta is organized by Alina Art Foundation in collaboration with Inarttendu Cultural Association.

With the video installation “Balaena”, Alessia Lupo Cecchet offers a poetic reflection on ecological fragility and grief: a beached whale becomes a symbol of imbalance, pain, and resistance.

Marijke de Pous’s photographic series “Choreographies of Care and Resistance” captures the intimate language of gesture and vulnerability, turning surrender into strength.

Rather than simply sharing a space, the two artists have created a unified, new, immersive project where their distinct voices meet harmoniously without losing identity. The exhibition spans multiple media — video, photography, installation, performance, drawing, and sculpture–forming a rich emotional landscape.

Born out of the ArteAlta experience in the Italian Alps, WON’T BE TAMED is both a collaboration and a statement in which both artists present new work.
